The airports of Bhubaneswar and Imphal will finally be granted an international status after the approval of the Union Cabinet on October 30, 2013. Both the airports have been renovated for suitable requirements and facilities needed for an international airport. The night operating facility has been completed along with more check-in counters, establishment of immigration services, ample space for health services, and animal and plant quarantine.
“The declaration of these airports as international airports will offer improved connectivity, wider choice of services at competitive cost to the air travellers, resulting in boosting international tourism and economic development of the region and the country,” the Ministry of Civil Aviation said in a statement.
