Delhi

Delhi, the capital of India and one of the oldest cities of the world, is unlike any other city on the planet. It's a place that not only touches your pulse but even fastens it to a frenetic speed. With a history that goes back many centuries & empires, Delhi showcases an ancient culture and a rapidly modernising country. From the labyrinth of narrow lanes, old havelis and colourful bazaars of Old Delhi to the best features of a modern city such as a metro system, gleaming malls, bustling markets and fabulous eating places; the past and the present mix seamlessly together in Delhi.

Centuries-old monuments are a part of the city's daily life. An array of historical sites including the World Heritage Sites of Red Fort, Humayun's Tomb and Qutub Minar rest amongst several historical treasures in Delhi's possession. Add to this the presence of diverse cultures, sprawling greenery, rich architecture and a famed cuisine, and Delhi becomes one of the undisputed highlights of the country.

Agra is an ancient city on the banks of the River Yamuna. It finds mention in the Mahabharata but gained importance as the capital of the Mughal Empire from 1556 - 1658. It is on the Golden Triangle tourist circuit with Delhi and Jaipur. It is famous for its Mughal architecture and for being home to one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Taj Mahal - a monument of incredible elegance and architectural perfection. Agra has many other famous archeological sites and is famous for its marble inlay work and its leather industry that manufactures shoe uppers for some of the best shoe companies in the world.

Activities

Guided tour of Agra, located on the banks of the river Yamuna. Agra is best known the world over as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its 3 grandiose monuments - Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri. Visit the sublime white marbled mausoleum of the Taj Mahal at sunrise and sunset; see the Tomb of Itmad-ud-Daulah; admire the magnificent Agra Fort and the Akbar Mausoleum in Sikandra. Enjoy a decorated tonga ride (a horse drawn carriage, popular in olden days) through the fabled city.

The capital city of the desert state of Rajasthan, Jaipur is reminiscent of the royal way of life that was once integral to this region. Today it is fondly referred to as the “Pink City” because of the trademark structures that sit here.

Activities

Guided tour of Jaipur to visit the Amber Fort, the Albert Hall, City Palace, the Palace of Winds (Hawa Mahal) and the world's largest stone observatory - the Jantar Mantar. See the Govind Devji Temple dedicated to Lord Krishna, the Lakshmi Narayan and Ganesh Temples; visit the amazing Jaigarh and Nahargarh Forts and Raj Mandir Cinema. Enjoy a ride on a decorated Elephant's up in the courtyard of the palace.

Called the ‘Cultural Capital of India’ for its deep-rooted traditions and age-old heritage, Chennai also has a young heart. It has grown into a charming city within a span of just over 350 years. Gaining recognition when, in 1639, Francis Day and Andrew Cogan, agents of the English East India Company, acquired a strip of land, called Chennapatnam on lease from the Vijayanagar King. Fort St. George that serves as the Government Secretariat today, was built to set up a factory serving as a nucleus for British settlements. The city was known as Madras till 1996 and later renamed as Chennai. Today this buoyant metropolis is a blend of the old and the new, the traditional and the modern. Spread over 200 sq km with the Bay of Bengal on the east, the city is the gateway to the rest of South India.

Activities

Tour of Chennai city with a local guide. Visit the National Museum and Fort St George, a fine example of 17th Century British military architecture. Within the fort there is a museum and St. Mary's Church, the first Anglican Church built in India. Also visit the Basilica of San Thome and the Kapaleeswarar Temple dedicated to Shiva.
