Rohetgarh

Rohet, Rajasthan
Upper Mid Range
Built in 1622, it’s safe to say that the expert craftsmen, who constructed this castle for military use, weren’t thinking about poolside dinners and renowned authors like Bruce Chatwin and William Dalrymple writing novels on the terraces overlooking the lakes. Neither was Thakur Dalpat Singh’s family who has been residing here since the last four centuries, thinking about opening their doors to the world at large, but so it did happen, albeit 350 years after Rohet was bestowed upon them. Once upon a time, this battle-fort was Marwar’s pride, which has witnessed the change brought about in Rajasthan by the passage of time.
