Kerala Houseboats (Rice barges)
Heritage
The Backwaters, Kerala
Upper Mid Range
The traditional 'kettuvallam' in Kerela are found almost at a dime a dozen. Typically made by tying planks of jackwood with coir rope and sealing them with black resin, these rice barges have seen great development and today have also been converted into houseboats. Equipped with a captain and your very own chef, life on this boat gets as simply luxurious as it gets. These boats not only have separate rooms and a space to relax but also offer services such as hot water and air conditioning to make your stay as comfortable as possible. As you cruise around the backwaters of Kerela, take a moment to soak in the unusual calm and store some of it for the hustling lives we are used to.
